Fire safety

Daily

  1. Inspect escape routes (e.g. clear obstructions, check door open/closing, visibility signage and illumination)
  2. Verify alarm panel for ‘normal’ status.
  3. Verify all fire safety equipment in place, visible and accessible (e.g. horns, signage, fire extinguishers, fire hydrant access)

 

Monthly

  1. Test call points, PA (Personal Address system), door release, smoke curtain drop, visible and audible alarms.
  2. Inspect fire door seals and self-closing door/devices.
  3. Inspect fire extinguishers (e.g. stored pressure, general physical condition, seal).
  4. Inspect fire hydrants.
  5. Inspect breathing apparatus.
  6. Inspect emergency water supply/tanks for levels and cleanliness.
  7. Inspect EPO (Emergency Power Off), where applicable

 

Quarterly

  1. Inspect emergency light fixtures, including battery condition, and indicators.
  2. Inspect sprinkler heads and gas nozzles including potential obstruction.
  3. Inspect fire panel battery backup.
  4. Inspect alternative fire prevention and/or suppression systems (e.g. water mist, hypoxic air/oxygen reduction systems, gas based suppression systems). These inspections should include, but not be limited, checks on alarm panels, actuator, solenoid valve, cylinder/tank pressure/filling, pipe fixings).
  5. Inspect dampers.
  6. Inspect fire safety signage and evacuation maps.

 

Yearly

  1. Inspect and test sprinkler systems (e.g. standpipes, fire pumps, alarm panels, sprinkler outlets).
  2. Inspect firefighter’s switches on elevators/lifts and electrical supplies.
