The organization should ensure that adequate measurement policies, techniques and equipment are in place to meet the requirements defined in the policies. Measurement categories should consider monitoring, reporting and engagement. Reporting may include verification of energy data and setting benchmark levels of energy use and reduction targets.
Monitoring may include trend analysis and tracking energy consumption to identify cost-savings (e.g. removal of comatose servers, containment, blanking panels, consolidation, correct placement of perforated tiles etc.) opportunities.
Engagement should result in real-time response (automated or manual), or the initiation of a dialogue between data center users and data center owners to promote energy conservation.
