Vendors often play a critical role in enabling the delivery of the service commitments of the data center to its customers. It is therefore of utmost importance to ensure that vendors are managed in a controlled fashion.
Policies and procedures
Proper policies and procedures need to be defined for how the organization is managing vendors. These policies and procedures should address at a minimum, but not be limited to:
- Selection.
- Preferred/alternate/backup source.
- Ongoing daily management.
- Escalation.
- Performance reporting.
- Audit and review.
- Retirement.
