Overview

Organizational resilience (OR) can be defined as the ability to survive and even thrive during a catastrophe. The goal of organizational resilience is to identify an organization’s risk of exposure to internal and external threats and to provide the organization with the ability to effectively respond to these threats to protect the business interests of the organization. Organizational resilience is an umbrella term covering many sub-disciplines including business continuity management, disaster recovery, business recovery, crisis management, incident management, emergency management, supply and demand chain management and contingency planning covering the whole spectrum as depicted below.

The organization should consider standards such as ISO 22301 and/or ISO 22313 which are applicable to both public and private sector businesses of any size.
