Change Management

Change management is a process whereby the current state of the data center is transitioned into a desired future state in a controlled and managed fashion. In a data center environment this would typically be applicable to the following:

  1. Implementation of changes to solve problems.
  2. Implementation of changes to meet legal, regulatory, statutory requirements.
  3. Implementation of changes to improve the data center (e.g. capacity, efficiency, capability, redundancy).

The organization should define policies and procedures which ensure that there is a standard process to manage change which will be effective and efficient whilst at the same time minimize risk associated with implementing a change.

The scope of change management may vary between an enterprise and commercial data center.
