Change management is a process whereby the current state of the data center is transitioned into a desired future state in a controlled and managed fashion. In a data center environment this would typically be applicable to the following:
- Implementation of changes to solve problems.
- Implementation of changes to meet legal, regulatory, statutory requirements.
- Implementation of changes to improve the data center (e.g. capacity, efficiency, capability, redundancy).
The organization should define policies and procedures which ensure that there is a standard process to manage change which will be effective and efficient whilst at the same time minimize risk associated with implementing a change.
The scope of change management may vary between an enterprise and commercial data center.
