The organization should have clear and documented environmental sustainability framework for building, operating and maintaining and decommissioning a sustainable data center. The framework should consist of:
- Policies which define the organization’s commitments to environmental and social sustainability.
- The performance standards, KPIs and metrics used for managing and improving the environmental and social sustainability (e.g. PUE, WUE, CUE, REF, etc.)
- Information policies detailing the access to information to allow for transparency as well as (awareness) training and communication for both employees, vendors/contractors, customers and visitors.
1.1.1 Environmental and social sustainability policies
The organization should establish a well-defined environmental and social sustainability policies. The policies should:
1) Be appropriate to the nature and scale of the organization and the energy usage and sustainability capability of its data center.
